Wire Grids
B.C. INSTRUMENTS FREE STANDING WIRE GRIDS
WHAT ARE FREE-STANDING IR/THZ WIRE GRID POLARIZERS?
Wire grid polarizers are wound around a supporting frame and are best suited to wavelengths greater than 50μm.
These polarizers consist of an array of parallel 13 μm to 25 μm tungsten wires secured to a mounting frame with a wire spacing to match your design requirements. These wires act to reflect the incident radiation electric field component parallel to the direction of the wires and transmit the electric field component perpendicular to the wires.

WHY CHOOSE FREE STANDING WIRE GRIDS?
- Wide Wavelength Range (20 μm to 10 mm)
- High Degree of Polarization; >99.9%
- High Transmission Efficiency
- No Beam Deviation or Dispersion
- Choice of Materials and Mounting Configurations
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Far Infrared and Terahertz Polarizing Beam Splitters
- Infrared Spectroscopy Polarization Studies
- Variable Attenuation or Reflection of Polarized Sources
- Coupling Devices for Long-Wavelength Sources
WHY CHOOSE B.C. INSTRUMENTS?
- We can wind grids using a variety of small diameter tungsten wires:
Ø0.025mm (.0010")
Ø0.018mm (.0007")
Ø0.013mm (.0005")
- Any wire spacing (typically 0.250mm); Variable spacing is possible.
- Maximum frame size Ø406.4mm (Ø16.0") or 406.4mm square
- Frames are custom made to your design. Any frame material including metals, ceramics and composites
- Grid assembly and final inspection is done in ISO Class 7 Clean Room
- Grid final packaging is done is ISO Class 4 environment.
- All grids are visually inspected under digital microscope at 20X 50X magnification for proper trimming and FOD.
- All grid wires are dimensionally inspected under vision system for spacing and parallelism.
