EMMS Featured in Industry Leading Magazines

EMMS is the Top Story in Tool & Production Magazine Cover story - October 2004

Canadian firm extends processing capability, Solon, OH: Nelson Publishing, Inc.

“At one time machining ceramics, glass, silicon, graphite, composite materials, carbide, or precious stones was primarily done in grinding operations. However, B.C. Instruments Inc., found a new way to cut these materials and significantly reduce machining times when it purchased a DMS35 ultrasonic machining center.”

EMMS's proactive approach to precision machining and success in using ultrasonic technology is featured in Modern Machine Shop Magazine February 2005

“The customer had the material in mind for 10 years, but could never find a way to manufacture a precision part composed of it. Using ultrasonic technology machining, BCI succeeded in making the part from this material (magnesia partially stabilized zirconia), holding 0.0005-inch tolerances with little difficulty.”

“In ceramics, BCI sees its ultrasonic machining as a complement to the more traditional machining options that many ceramics providers already have available.”

“Ultrasonic machining can be up to three times the speed of grinding, says Mr. Pinder. That means lead-times can be significantly reduced. In addition, the risk of subsurface cracking is much lower, because the contact between tool and material is so minimal.”

“…he (Pinder) and others within the company are quite familiar with how a variety of ceramics materials behave, and how to machine them effectively.”

“BCI has mastered the use of this technology for now.”

“If you try to drive there (to BCI”s plants) before sunrise, you might miss the company in the dark,”…”stay alert-or else you may miss something significant waiting just off the main road.”

As the first North American Company to successful install and use the DMS 35 Ultra Sonic Machine, EMMS is featured as the centerfold in DMG Journal September 2004

"BCI’s EMMS Manager, Anthony Pinder, “realized that there was an opportunity to provide a service to them (their clients) that they couldn’t get anywhere else, and possibly get new work from customers we hadn’t been able to do parts for in the past.”

“We had just started getting into ceramic machining, and I was really not too keen on grinding. When I saw the DMG machine, I recognised it was more like milling than grinding, and I saw a match with what we do,” (advance and rethink the machining of engineered materials to provide the best service with the latest technology for our customers), BCI President, Roger Conzelmann explains.
